Position Summary:

Set up and perform the mechanical and/or electrical build, test and repair work on experimental products, components, and equipment where work duties follow established standards, specifications and instructions. Work under the general direction of the lab manager, with assistance only as needed to handle unusual situations. Work duties involve a definite degree of skill, accuracy and coordination.


Responsibilities of Position:

1. Performs specialized mechanical and/or electrical tests on product components or a series of components.

2. Maintains records on work performed, collects data and reports results.

3. Keeps supervision informed of developments as needed.

4. Installs, operates and maintains shop or laboratory test equipment and instrumentation.

5. Assists by providing laboratory services in support of Quality Control audits and evaluation of customer issues.

6. Ensures good housekeeping, safety practices and the availability of adequate supplies and equipment.

7. Frequent contact with others outside the work group.

8. Performs related duties and special projects as assigned.

9. Pulls jobs as assigned from database.

10. Receives set-up instructions from Lab Technician II or Lab Manager.

11. Assists with report writing under the supervision of the Lab Technician II or Lab Manager.

12. May receive detailed instruction on new assignments.


Skill Requirements:

1. Strong mechanical aptitude.

2. Knowledge of basic math.

3. Some analytical ability where problems are not difficult or complex.

4. Ability to work effectively with others.

5. Basic written and verbal communication skills.


Experience Requirements:

1. Completion of recommended corporate training programs.


Licensing or Special Certification Requirements:

1. Valid drivers’ license.


Physical Requirements:

1. Regular and predictable attendance.


Working Conditions:

1. Occasionally lifts and / or carries up to 50 pounds.

2. Maneuvers in, around and under factory and/or laboratory equipment on a regular and continuous basis.

3. Some of work time is spent standing, walking, lifting and bending.

4. Works within an automotive components manufacturing office setting and may be exposed to heat, cold and fumes/chemicals.

Education:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Associate’s degree in engineering or related field preferred
